Song: "No Complications"
Artist: Cosmic Psychos
Album: Cosmic Psychos (1987)

20 years, huh? Timeless.

I can't find a sample of the song.

There's this, though.

I recall listening to this song a lot around the time I quit a job two years ago. Fairly accurate to the situation, that.

Song: "That One Song"
Artist: That One Guy
Album: You Know (1982)

You know what they say....

Only the great die in June.

Yep.

This guy had a definite mark on my childhood.

I have a clear memory of being about six years old, sitting in the backseat of the car with my brand new stuffed fox hand puppet that was bought for me at some nature park. It took a lot of begging to get my parents to do shit for me relative to the moment I wanted the shit done because they're both cheap bastards who hate children. So I finally got something when I wanted it AND it was cool. At this moment of happiness, leaving the park, hitting the freeway with Foxy on my hand, "Thriller" came on the radio...

I ended up losing Foxy after a couple of days. I have NO idea where he went. I think I found him a bunch of years later when I didn't give a shit anymore, then RE-lost him. Really. I was a pretty organized, "aware" kid. I knew where my stuff was. I don't know how the hell he disappeared.

Foxy also reminds me of "Foxey Lady" by that other guy.... I wonder why?

I also remember being about 12-13 years old, listening to Z100 and they were saying they were going to call MJ in the hospital he was staying at after he collapsed on stage. It took a while but they actually did it. I recorded it and still have the tape around here somewhere. What was that guy's name, Nelson? I think he pretended to be the president (Clinton), hence why he got passed by so many people...

That was also around the time I was at the mall one afternoon with my mom/sister and we walked by a tv in the center walkway of the mall to see a white bronco being chased down the freeway by police. My sister made us stand there for something like two hours. I was bored out of my wits.

But yeah.

Videos. Most memorable videos in the history of videos, ever?

(Assuming a lot of things here, wouldn't it be great to get MC drunk and molest him silly?! Especially as in that scene he does in Party Monster, with the song he makes up on stage at what they thought was going to be a rave.)

My favorite was the one with the 20s gangsters and the bar even though the song is annoying.

But yeah. I think we can all agree on the above song and video...

Song: "Frequency 7 (dance remix)"
Artist: Visage

I was just watching some random-as-fuck story about the history of house music, and was incredibly distracted by this song. Apparently the group is new wave but this is a dance remix... It's just a creepy song. It reminds me of cheesy vampire movies from the 80s... It could use a little something more to it, maybe some vocals like the original, but all the same... it's weird, and good. Reminds me a bit of JusticeMSTRKRFTdaftPunk.

I should make a comp of all of the songs I have/know that have some sort of deity thing going on.... says "saturnine" who doesn't like competition.

In the meantime, you can thank Ren for inspiring this classic metal post.

Song: "Like A Virgin"
Artist: Madonna
Album: Like A Virgin (1984)

No comments on the quality of the song or whatever (okay okay, the video is great), but... I listened to this 200 times in a row one day so I could write this. I'll Never Forget.

I just need to say about this is that I wrote this in the year 2000. Some of these things aren't so "present" among internet users now. I bet it could use some updating, but I'd rather just find another simple song to rape.

Like a Lamer
I made it through the internet
somehow I made it through
didn't know how k3w1 I was until I found you

I was L337, incomplete
I've been had, I was sad and blue
but you made me feel
yeah you made me feel
so fecken k3w1

[like a lamer
hacked for the very first time
like a lamer
when your hard drive fucks up mine]

gonna upload you all my love, boy
free space is fading fast
been saving it all for you
no more baud will last
you're so fine
and you're mine
make me <strong>
yeah, my text's in bold
oh, beyond any doubt
yeah, beyond any doubt
it's so scary and bold

[chorus]

you're so fine and you're mine
I'll be posin' til the end of time
cuz you made me feel
yeah, you made me feel
I've nothing to hide

[chorus]

feels so good inside
when you hack me
and your so L337
and you love me
Oh oh oh oh oh baby
Can you see my hard drive
for the very first time?

Song: "Welcome Home / Sanitarium"
Artist: Metallica

I'm not sure exactly why, but I thought the word was "sagittarian" (as opposed to "sanitarium") for all of my youth and teenage years. I would think that, wouldn't I?

Song: "The Kiss"
Artist: The Cure
Album: Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me (1987)

And another one that's unusual for the blog. The fucking Cure?! Yeah.

This song takes a while to get to the point, but the minutes spent on noise-making create the right mood for the vocal portion of the track. I recommend that you get this song as it is on the album, because the screech coming from the live videos I found has been toned down a lot. If you go to their myspace and in the player click "Albums", scroll through to this album and you will find a decent version of the song.

While you're at it, listen to "Why Can't I Be You?" ... and "If Only Tonight We Could Sleep" because that song... is one of the best, ever.

Song: "Magic Dance"
Artist: David Bowie/Labyrinth
Album: Labyrinth OST (1986)

Soundtracks suck really hard... unless they're over the top, too retarded to resist. I mean, muppets. I think I'm the only girl of this movie's generation that doesn't care for men in tights and blonde hairspray fro's, but the movie definitely has a power over sensible thought in ladies. This and freakin' Legend. Just look at Sara's stupid peasant shirt. If I had a shirt like that, I'd get lost in a maze and start hallucinating furry beasts named Ludo, too. I thought this movie was filmed in the 80s, not the late 60s...

I suppose I should say something about the song. Hm. Well... it's catchy.

I don't really mind this likely because it's hard not to empathize with the lyrics. Chances are, many of you do not like this song... and you have every right. There's so much eighties in it. And flamboyant gayness. And you know what Bill Hicks says...

Song: "Ashes to Ashes"
Artist: David Bowie
Album: Scary Monsters (1980)

The previous song reminds me of this one. Though the subject is similar and they're both "low" songs, I think I might have been listening to the songs at the same time in life. Either way, I'm sure most of you who would have picked up David Bowie already know him and his songs, sooo... moving on to the next drug song.

Song: "Sin"
Artist: Nine Inch Nails
Album: Pretty Hate Machine (1989)

Jesus Christ, I'm fucking exhausted. But, unlike this day a year past, neither of my hands are sending pain signals to my brain. Still, yesterday's show was full of the crazy...

I wasn't paying much attention to what people were "doing" when I was young, so it comes as a surprise to me that my early days of liking this band coincides with many others in that, so often, others' favorite early NIN track is this one.

Despite any sense, it's just so good. If nothing else, how often do you hear the word "effigy" in lyrics?

Song: "It's Still Rock & Roll To Me"
Artist: Billy Joel
Album: Glass Houses (1980)

You've undoubtedly heard this song by now, if only by accident or associating with 80s revival morons. It's an excessively pop-centric song, therefore alienating my audience, but it's what you get. The song is about not being a trend whore, which is a statement of thick, awe-inspiring irony, but nevertheless a useful statement one should keep in mind at all times.

Song: "Don't Talk To Me"
Artist: GG Allin & The Jabbers
Album: Always Was, Is And Always Shall Be (1980)

Someone told me I should listen to GG Allin. I wrote it down but I kept forgetting to do something about this. I finally got some stuff recently, and it's almost in direct contrast to what I've been interested in lately. Nevertheless, it was on my mind...

Then I heard this song. Written sometime just before my birth, it aptly describes my life.

Also, for the astrolo-geekin', I think it's funny that this guy has a Gemini Moon. Square Jupiter, even. Fucking amazing. People only hate what they are.

Song: "Back to Life"
Artist: Soul II Soul
Album: Club Classics Vol. I (1989)

Another first of its kind here. I have had this song stuck in my head for, apparently, 19 years. Having heard two seconds of it a moment ago, I decided to post about it.

When I was a kid, I was borderline obsessed with the idea of media and recording time. This later shifted to the internet and websites. As a kid, though, my means of responding to this concept was creating my own version of the media - making radio and dialog-based shows and writing fake commercials. If I would've had a video camera, I probably would have made TV shows as well. Instead, I had blank cassette tapes and a sound recorder.

I hear this song, and I'm immediately picturing these tapes. Off the top of my head, I must have used this song as a transition between an introduction and an actual show, or a transition between shows, because I don't think I would have recorded this song entirely. But maybe I actually did, being a kid and not knowing better.

No wonder I have "issues" with electronic music these days...

Song: "Modern Love"
Artist: David Bowie
Album: Let's Dance (1983)

This song is extremely light and dancey for being such a lyrically heavy topic. Someone worthwhile needs to cover this song, taking the drum track out of it and replacing it with some other instrument. A video search finds a lot of acoustic covers, but most aren't very good.

Song: "Love Monster"
Artist: Monster Magnet
Album: Love Monster demo (1988)

I was not aware of this demo's existence until fairly recently, and I'm not sure this album is going to appeal to anyone who isn't a fan of Monster Magnet, but the shuffle gods tell me that this is today's song so I must obey. That said, if you're a fan or you're interested in Monster Magnet, download this if you don't yet have it somewhere in your collection. It's too rare to buy, methinks.

"Love Monster" stands out pretty well on its own. In some very loose way it has a hint of metal, but it's mostly a pop-y sort of rock song ala "19 Witches" (Powertrip), "Kiss of the Scorpion" (God Says No). Even if you're more interested in heavier tracks, it might appeal for its bassline alone.

Song: "Pills For Breakfast"
Artist: Faith No More
Album: We Care A Lot (1985)

I like the guitars here, how they seem to quickly bounce between notes (for example, at 00:47-1:00). It seems.. less rigid.
