THEIR WHOLE SET! I'd embed the video but it's too large for my site and the size is a prime number so sizing it down would make it look shitty. So, "Third Alternative" just made my day.

I like how I can call me fucking around on the internet, if it's musically related, "research". I was doing "research" last night and randomly found this song as someone's live show video. I looked up the song and ended up doing some mass downloading all because I needed to find it as an mp3. In any case, it sounds...really...good. It feels fairly typically thrash but, you know, modernized for the kids who don' growed up on the em teevees. And fucking catchy as shit lyrics. I like the way the singer's voice is [produced] here, too. You'll find this on their self-titled 2005 EP. You'll also enjoy how the second song sounds like Black Sabbath after the first sounds like Metallica. Here's the vid (and check out the rest of that user's videos while you're at it): February 6, 2010
A few weeks ago, my pal Ren posted some Eggnogg song(s) online. Being still over-saturated, I skipped them... only to later have him post them at me instead. I gave them a shot, and sure enough, this live performance video 'did it': That's the song "Northern Lights". The songs on their 2009 album entitled III are each individually welcoming various states of doom, but this one is particularly mellow throughout. Even though it's accurate that they've been compared to Electric Wizard, it's an unfair way to approach Eggnogg as a first time listener. Despite being low and slow like said band, I think they can carve their own way with marching guitar bits like at the end of this song. You can also listen this and others on their myspace. Tweak Bird just posted a new song to their myspace:
It sounds more relaxed than Reservations material, more in line with what's been seen of them live this last year. Still spaced the hell out, especially with the indefinable instrumental bit... oy vey. And today was Melvins' first day in the studio, in which they posted this video of their dual percussion abuse: Also, today I heard Trent Reznor's recording? Recording what, I guess we'll find out. Ditto on Parade of Storms, though I'm sure they're recording a Parade of Storms of album. And that damn TB song put me right in the mood for Ancient Age's "Angela". If she'd've listened to me, she would still be aliiiive. February 1, 2010
Pretty cool 2D meets 3D video, here.

More teasing. In between bits of interview, there's a new song. It starts around 2:00-2:20. January 20, 2010
Red Sparowes' new album is due out April 6th. Here's a pretty teaser: January 18, 2010

I can't find any real information on this band, which is unfortunate. They sound familiar to some Portland/Seattle bands, and I could see them playing with a band like Black Elk or Rabbits. They're new and far, far away, so I doubt that's going to happen... but you may also notice the similarities. Two videos (of several I found). December 11, 2009

Since I had time to work on the Black Cobra video, I had time to clip and upload the couple of Fu Manchu videos I got. Nope, didn't record any new songs. My wrist was hurting and the two full songs were probably annoying enough. "Mongoose": "Evil Eye": Oh, and like I said... my camera hates the color red so these are blurry and shit. I didn't do any video of Nether Regions or Salvador since I knew it would just be pointless, considering. The guy who whistled needed to be strangled. Oh, right, and while you're at it: PHOTOS! Nether Regions & Salvador Yeah, why take pictures of the headliner? ...In truth, they didn't come out.

(If this video looks funky, go to this link instead. I had to resize it for my blog and didn't feel like playing with the calculator all night to make it look perfect.) Some of the most boring days of my life have been spent at Oaks Park. Unique, yes, but not "rockin'". Glad I didn't go to that show. It looks packed and hot as fuck. Once in a while those shows are okay, but not back to back. Also, anyone see any girls or women in these photos/video? Oh, two? Yeah. That's what I thought. August 8, 2009
Apparently converting and uploading seven videos takes almost a full day to accomplish when you're retarded. It's too bad the video on this isn't at least a little better (particularly for Black Elk) because the sound is really good. What you hear here is pretty much what it sounded like in real life. Black Elk - "My Lil": Tweak Bird - "Portal in the Sky": Tweak Bird - "Spaceships": Tweak Bird & Toshi - "Whorses" (clip): Big Business - intro & "Just As The Day Was Dawning" (clip): Big Business - "The Drift": Big Business - "I Got It Online" (clip) + Tweak Bird in a massive finale: Note that Big Business is currently on tour with the Melvins AS the Melvins, Black Elk has a TON of shows coming up with some really great, above par lineups (Brothers of the Sonic Cloth, Jucifer, YOB...), and Tweak Bird is also in perpetual motion. They have another show coming up here on September 3rd which I'm sure means a whole set of dates have yet to be officially announced. See them if you get a chance, they're fucking fantastic. I found the reason why Mastodon sucks so bad lately. They've been spending their nights hanging out at dance clubs. Observe: http://www.stoneyour.tv/?video_id=19732

Song: "Craigslist" This song is grand. Weird Al doing a Doors impression. Add video skills from Liam Lynch, and you get... this: I still have a copy of Alapalooza around here somewhere... June 8, 2009
Song: "Ephraim" Every time I've seen Thrones, this song has been played first. In recorded format, it's only about four minutes long which is fairly tolerable even for those of us with shorter attention spans and more immediate needs. Live, however, "Ephraim" is stretched out to about fourteen minutes. Listen to the first minute and that's what it's like pretty much the entire time. The second time I saw Thrones, I had a "this again?!" sort of internal reaction. The third time around, though, just watching all of the "scene" people clear out of the room was worth it. I've never seen a musician have such a repelling effect on people before. This particular song is very "drone" which is a difficult genre to begin with and certainly not for everyone. Perhaps with the popularity of certain similar bands people know what they've come to witness or at least fake the staying power to impress themselves in the name of something or other. As far as I've noticed, Thrones doesn't have this "for the sake of" appeal. In watching people clear out, I wondered if perhaps Mister Preston chose to play this song so long and first specifically to weed out the morons in the room. For some reason (the reason of me being the kind of person who'd do something like that), this idea comes across as REALLY funny. Even if it isn't on purpose... wow. I did not like this song at all the first times through, but after that and since getting the recorded format of it... I'm afraid I can't NOT like it. In it's four minute long incarnation, it's a nice moody song. In its live 13-15 version, it's simultaneously irritating and hilarious. Both versions, worth it. June 1, 2009
And since I didn't have a song sample for you back when I posted the song originally... Shrapnel - "Combat Love": May 8, 2009

For those of you looking for or interested in Roadburn stuff, people started uploading some decent quality videos to youtube days ago... There's much more than this, but you'll have to go looking for yourself. Give it a month and I'm sure there will be ten times what you can currently find. Church of Misery: Mono: OM: AmenRa: AmenRa again: April 21, 2009
Go congratulate Hackman on their six seconds of fame. They still have 14 minutes and 54 seconds left, so don't act like a jerk or you're going to be forgotten when they're raking in the MTV cash. Or whatever. 1:05 is what you're looking for. Or this. April 20, 2009
Check out this youtube channel for a bunch of recent Oaks videos. Looks like it must be their whole set from a show. When you're through: download or buy. And seriously, don't hesitate. Oaks is better than the shit you've been listening to and you don't want to miss out on that album. April 1, 2009
I did not realize how draining these yearly posts would be. Have a break with this (really great) Black Cobra video I just found. Two songs. February 5, 2009

Keeping in with the pattern this week... Here's a batch of ten from the year 2006. January 19, 2009
And I've made one for 2007, too. This may cause further videos, also. I have a crush on my new video software. It's been too long. January 19, 2009
Watch it in high quality, yo. January 17, 2009

And some more. Those of you without youtube accounts should get one so you can automatically view high quality versions of video (and sound). Granted, you have to change the settings in your account either way, but it's much nicer. January 17, 2009

Another bulk post while we get acquainted, mm? I loaded up mostly new-to-me songs in Winamp early this week, and hoped for the best. All of these were found online, so if you want to hear a song or more from the band, just do a search. |
