Vildhjarta - "Shiver" The music on this song is fantastic during the first bit. I wish this song was just that first 40 seconds over and over. However, GENRE BAD. And I apologize for the vocals in advance. They made me gag a little because, here on earth, in this reality, in this decade, someone thought those vocals were "cool" enough to record, and cool enough to record like that. Here's hoping the band's full of teenagers who haven't been exposed to anything better. The good news is, the rest of their songs seem to mostly be just technical metal... so yay for them. I don't know what the fucking deal is with the numbers, but HOLY something-or-other! LISTEN RIGHT NOW. Apparently they're touring in support of 0130 (album name) with Ninth Moon Black here soon. Nice. PS. Blackwaves. February 6, 2010
I was trying to put together a comp of bands that have "evil" songs last year. I didn't finish it, but I kept the rough draft and consequently ended up listening to it many times since... particularly because of this song. "Evil Is" kind of reminds me of Children and, more loosely, Saviours. Early Man's toured with a bunch of different metal bands ranging from modern thrash to cheesy 80s power metal to stoner metal - from me you'll recognize Red Fang and High on Fire - so I suppose many other comparisons would make sense. Either way, give that song a listen. November 18, 2009
[69] Young Widows, Russian Circles (2009) [70] Helms Alee, Young Widows, Russian Circles (2009) Ooh. My first morning-after review. Hey, it actually is(!) a review! ... Not really. I woke up not feeling as bad as I probably should, having woken up yesterday at 6am, leaving the house for this at 3, and not getting home til 1. I haven't dedicated nearly this much time to a show since the last time I had "concert friends". Not counting traveling to distant cities or sleeping over, possibly never. The fact that I woke up so fucking early put a damper on this whole experience. I kind of knew I wasn't going to be in the mood for two "identical" shows, that I'd either show up late or leave early... and I ended up leaving early due to the lack of sleep (and too many fucking tall people). The first show ran from 5:15 to 7 or 7:15. Kind of lame considering the all-ages crowd paid the same price as the 21+ crowd, yet only got 2/3 a show. Granted, there weren't that many people there. Maybe 100 at most. Most of them looked pretty young. I wasn't exactly sure who was on stage when three boymen stood up there, but I knew it wasn't Helms Alee... since I was pretty sure Helms had ladies in the band. I couldn't decide if it was Git Some or not, since they were originally billed. I thought I'd recognize Young Widows since I've seen them once before... Nope. I guess it's been a while. So, I liked Young Widows' first set to a point. They were hovering over "meh" most of the time, but the lower end of their sound was pretty good. I'm wondering at this point if I just like bass/bass drums and that's that. Or maybe I don't like guitarists... erm, unless they're fantastic. I don't know. This is an unsolvable riddle until I actually put some real thought into it, which may never happen because I don't really care all that much. For Russian Circles, I had a good angle to the stage so I could see all that their guitarist was doing... Just like the other two times I've seen them. I don't know what the thing is called, but it's a pedal that records what you've played and plays it back. He loves that thing. And I suppose it saves on having to gain a half-used fourth member to fill in those spots. Looper. Thanks google. I kept wanting to say repeater because I'm a computer nerd, not a music nerd. So yeah... They sounded great. Why wouldn't they? Their first set seemed a bit "best of", though they played new songs... I think it was their last song that I didn't necessarily care for, possibly just because I'm not sure I've ever listened to it, but the rest was good. "Geneva" was nice live - the first time I actually had a reason to look over to the bassist. After that was over, I had almost two hours to kill. I managed to get through the first one with relatively little pain, but the second one was where I started to get very sleepy. I was having trouble through the rest of the night trying to be "awake". I wish they would have started at 8 or 8:30 instead. By the time music began again, the venue looked like it had been sold out... Possibly even over-sold. Very much in contrast to the early show. The type of people also changed - from apparent "kids" and hipster sorts to the older drunk idiot and aspiring meathead and "I'm here with my boyfriend" crowd. I also noticed a change in how alive/aware and enthusiastic people were. The older crowd seemed less insecure/thoughtful even though the lot of them were just as sterile. Helms Alee didn't sound as great as I wanted them to. They had some really heavy moments where they all worked together and it was really great... but then they would have lighter moments and each instrument seemed like it was going off in its own direction. At one actually quiet song, it felt like the drums were way overpowering the guitars/vocals, and not in a possibly good way if, say, presented elsewhere. But, again, when they worked together things sounded fine. Young Widows set two was initially better than the first time around. One or two of their songs had apparently worn off on me in that time. Otherwise... well, okay. Russian Circles sounded beautiful, but I only stayed for a song and a half (almost 20 minutes) before I decided straining to see with as tired as I was wasn't going to work when I already had a decent fresh memory of them. Today, I feel shitty as expected, but not nearly as shitty as 8-10 hours of my life would assume. My brain isn't working so great and I'm having trouble with words, but hey... what's new. At least my body feels okay with this abuse. That said, the concert tickets on my desk have all been cleared away, and I have finals coming up in 2-3 weeks, plus the end of the year lack-of-shows is nigh... so I'm not sure when the 71st show o'mine will be... I have ideas but it's hard to say how realistic they are. Nevertheless, if you don't see one of these for a while, do not fret (insert arrogance over how I think anyone actually reads these things here). They shall resume.

Song: "The Lie That Is Sin" The newest Yob sounds better six months and six days after its initial sting. Possibly due to deprivation, dehydration, and sleep disturbance. I kind of knew I'd like this better when I felt like stabbing a needle in my eye (as opposed to frolicking through a field of daisies). Holy long-ass intro into the actual "song" bit of this song. Did you know that Yabby's playing a show January 29th at Rotture with the band Bloody Panda? Now you do. Well, you do as long as the date remains in tact. October 22, 2009
Song: "Dulcinea" Annual overdose-on-Isis time again. It must be because they were one of my first artists here. I've been listening to that song a lot. (It could also be because of all of the damn rain and gloominess lately.) Looking for that post, I discovered that I haven't posted another Isis track since those first ones. What the shit? So here you go. As much as I pick on Isis and Isis clones, this song is pretty fucking amazing. Definitely a grower, so if you're not a fan of sitting still and listening to a song that's the length of 2-3 average songs, give it some time. The early middle and very end bits will reach your brain at some point. PS. Tool. October 22, 2009
Song: "Polar Bear" Puscifer has a new single. It's apparently on the radio. It sounds safe, too. Nice and mellow. Gotta say I like it. Hey: this album comes out November 10th. October 21, 2009
Live album review of Baroness' Blue Record - GO! 1. Yeah whatever. 2. I haven't really understood the Mastodon / Baroness connection. Probably because I started listening to Mastodon around 2006 and didn't pick up Baroness til probably late 2007 after I'd gotten over the majority of the Mastodon infatuation. With at least a year, maybe two year separation between them in my history, to me they seem like separate entities entirely. This song makes that connection make sense, however. Song's not too bad, might actually be listening to it in the future. Ending - the hell? 3. Crap, I can already tell this one's going to be good, too. ... I like the beat of the song as far as the drums go. Kind of too much to take in at once at times, though. This record's starting to smell like tequila... Wonder if they have the same producer as some other band I know. 4. lol. Not expected. Hm, none of those bands I thought of are related to this one by production. I was actually picturing a venue, and a particular person in relation to the venue is actually related to the producer. Maybe just a weird psychic guess. It does feel sort of like a lot of other bands I've been listening to in recent years with the "moist" bass sound. Well that ended sort of abrupt. 5. Not sure what to say about this one... Kind of repetitive 'concept' but like an instrumental track, not annoying. Once again seeing the Mastodon relation I wasn't seeing before. Obviously crackey Mastodon. 6. Church music. This is a lot better than Wolfmother, though (duh). What's this pause here? The ambiance. Clearly these guys are "sensitive". I fear Russian Circles is gonna pop out now. Here comes the high plucky guitar! And it's getting louder...... 7. Heh, pretty close. ..... The heck is with the psychedelic vibratory guitar all of a sudden? .... and now a fuzzy guitar bit. JIMMAY! This no-guitar piece right here is where he sets his gee-turr on fire. Hm, this isn't epic at all. 8. What do people have against V's. Yuck, I hate when I can hear the strings click and whine back in songs. ...RUN, TO, THE, HILLLLSSS.... No, I guess not. This is getting really annoying. And even more so. Fuck. 9. Okay I'm cool with you guys getting to the point now. Massive jackoffery located in this direction - half price to 15 year old Dream Theater fans! 10. Sounds southern, sort of. 11. (waits) Baroness' "we appeal to girls, too" song per the album, I guess. 2:30 - finally the song changes! OMG WORDS. I thought it was going to be all instrumental. I'm not sure these "hardass" vocals fit this song. And it's over. 12. Last one and only three minutes. Hey, this sounds familiar. Must be a clip out of that other Bullshit song. Sounds like a damn lullaby. No words yet? Nope! None. It's funny that I just listened to this whole thing and I haven't even listened to Mastodon's new one all of the way through yet. And that's it. This album smelled like sweet hard liquor something awful. Pretty powerful overall sound, really nice and clear music. Accessible. Not too far down into "fag metal" even when approaching it with a few of these tracks, but still pretty easy on the ears. I can see why it's getting praise. In conclusion, October 21, 2009
I am going to cover two birds with one stone here and mini "live" review both Priestess' Prior To The Fire and Wolfmother's Cosmic Egg in the same entry, at the same time. I have heard "Lady Killer" by Priestess so far and that's it. Everything else is brand new to me. History: I love/like a few Priestess tracks, and the rest are kind of boring. I initially thought Wolfmother was interesting and their popularity made them quickly not interesting at all, made worse by realizing how fucking annoying they are. I suppose if I were 10 or 15 years old, or still had that mindset, I might like them better. This is probably what we're gonna get from this review, folks.
Priestess - 1. Lady Killer Priestess - 2. Raccoon Eyes Priestess - 11. Trapped In Space & Time Priestess - 3. The Firebird Wolfmother - 1. California Queen Wolfmother - 2. New Moon Rising http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Moulder LOL. He said "wo-mon" again. Anyway, this is like elevator music for a metal themed department store. Wolfmother - 3. White Feather Priestess - 4. Murphy's Law Priestess - 5. The Gem Ooh, Ren will like this: Wolfmother - 4. Sundial Wolfmother - 5. In The Morning Wolfmother - 6. 10,000 Feet Wolfmother - 7. Cosmic Egg ZZ Top - Gimme All Your Lovin Now I'm reading shit about how Wolfmother and Slash collaborated on "a song". Hm. Hard to say where. Wolfmother - 8. Far Away Priestess - 6. Communicating Via Eyes Priestess - 7. Lunar Priestess - 8. It Baffles The Mind And it baffles my mind that I'm going to finish the Wolfmother recording now. Wolfmother - 9. Pilgrim Wolfmother - 10. In The Castle Wolfmother - 11. Phoenix Wolfmother - 12. Violence of the Sun Priestess - 9. Sideways Attack Priestess - 10. We Ride Tonight Wolfmother - 13. Back Round
Wolfmother made me want to kick a small animal like usual. Here are bands you should listen to INSTEAD OF Wolfmother and still gain the same overall results: every other band in the history of the universe. Priestess is, for the most part, forgettable but they still put out better music than the vast majority of popular artists, and thus you should get this here album if you're inclined. In conclusion, buy Black Cobra - Chronomega with your money instead. I'm gonna go listen to the new Alice In Chains and cry now. October 20, 2009
Song: "Spanish Werewolves" I'm going to have to attach a laminated address travel tag to my pants so I get home safely from this one: Nether Regions is opening for FU MANCHU! here on Friday. !!!!!1~ I hate to be so enthusiastic when you all know I have no enthusiasm but I had caffeine today and this is AWESOME news. As I said before, Nether Regions were really good live last month. I hope Dante's and the Fu crowd treats them well. Oh, and Salvador(!!!!111!1`) is opening for them, too. September 24, 2009
I forgot that I live in the mail void. Perhaps the KWC record will arrive tomorrow... In the meantime, I will suffice on a streaming version of Russian Circle's new one, Geneva. It seems less pointed than the previous record... less high, dotted sounds. But it sounds like Russian Circles. Maybe they've spent a little too much time around Red Sparowes, but it still sounds pretty "nice". This album should make it to the internet in .rar format in 3, 2, 1... September 23, 2009
Song: "Women" I can't hear all of the lyrics from this album yet, but this and a couple other songs on here made me laugh. This song is the most "insightful"... and totally lame. This goes really well right after the new Black Cobra. It's sort of like a cross between earlier Big Business (or Karp or...) and Black Cobra with a few songs. But yeah. Overwhelmingly hardcore/punk thing happening. And the worst kind of vocals, ever - "talking" singing. Like everything that was left over from all the why-me from Here Come The Waterworks and Mind The Crappy Production. September 23, 2009
I should get Kowloon Walled City's new one - Gambling on the Richter Scale - in the mail very soon. If it's not in the mail already (still need to check - my mailbox is halfway across the earth), it will probably arrive tomorrow. I'm pretty excited about it. I pre-ordered the whole set/package - shirt, black/silver LP, CD. I've been watching the KWC guys put everything together through their blog and twitter, and they announced they were shipping pre-orders eight days early. I got my shipping notification the next day. Assuming it's not in the mail yet, but tomorrow, they're five days ahead of schedule. Them's good business. In less direct to artist fashion, I also pre-ordered other albums due to be released September 29th. God Is Good by the band OM was one of them. I didn't care all that much about OM before, my appreciation has been pretty limited to songs like "Flight of the Eagle", but this album is too "good". Doomriders also has an album out 9/29, but I decided to skip it over until I've established a clear base with them. Of course, from all of my love-talk in the direction of Black Cobra since my first listen of "Sugar Water" last year, you should know that I pre-ordered their new album: Chronomega. Assuming amazon behaves, I should have the album sometime in the next two weeks. I woke up today and found it had leaked. I have the time today, so... Why not make a song-by-song "live" listening post? (breathes) Here we go.
1. Negative Reversal. Immediate thought: doesn't sound wildly different from the myspaced version. It'll probably clear up in experience in time, although I'm scared this might be a bad rip. Obviously I've heard this before, so there's not much to say. It's familiar to BC's earlier speedy heavy stuff. space. 2. Machine. Yeah, this sounds like a bad rip. Now I'm pissed off. Would it kill you leakers to maybe listen to your copies before spreading them everywhere? Maybe even tell us in advance that though it says it's 160kbps, it's really 96? I'll keep going, but yeah... if BC did this on purpose to their sound, they made a really shitty move and should be punched in the face for being a disgrace to themselves. This song sounds like it's going to need some time to sink in. I'm sure it would sound heavier and more stompy than "fuzzy" if it sounded right. Chaos does come out from the guitar, though... 3. Catalyst. Here comes the BC opera. Myst soundtrack, like one of those "scary", ambient electronic rooms you're supposed to be looking for something but you have no idea what it is. Uh-oh, here comes music. Now we're black metal. Oh, thank god, we're not black metal anymore. I can get behind this. It's on par with all that love I used to talk about, and still... wtf? sweeet. ... That was great. I like this one for sure. Fucking great. Even sounds awesome in shittiest quality ever. Very doomy after all that ambiance... what we like about BC. I drink too much tea break time! Second listen: yes, like. 4. Chronosphere. Dead world? http://cnc.wikia.com/wiki/Chronosphere Maybe time world. Headbanging material. Like that guitar sound. Really easy to get into. Got that stoner rock/metal driving feel. I think the vocals might actually sound somewhat relevant to the song. PETTING MY BOBO. Yeah. Yeah. Really nice, here. 5. Zero Point Field. Right off, testing the drummer's ability to not fail at his job. Kind of wavers into a slower pattern after that. Not as immediate as the last two tracks, but still pretty nice. ... Then there's a musical interlude. I'm expecting it to return to something. Will it?....No. 6. Lightning In His Hand Torche? SAVIOURS?! heh! The 1:30 back and forth thingy is nice. Something about it sounds really familiar, not sure where from. The middle-end is ...familiar Black Cobra territory. That's me not saying "nice" again. Another break. Cookies. 7. Storm Shadow Well, hi there. I didn't see you come in. Thanks for breaking down my door. I didn't need that, anyway. ...The little boys are going to lose their shit when they hear this live. I'm going to have to wear body armor. Nice. Very, very nice. 8. Glacies en Spiritu Wow, there hasn't been any real low point on this album yet. It's all 'intense' except for that piece in front of "Catalyst" so far. Again, semi-clear vocals that might be important to the song. 9. Nefarian Triangle OMG acoustic Black Cobra! lol. ...and it picked up, too. The ending is sort of quiet... very much in contrast to the rest of the album. (blink) And that's it. Well, since it wasn't the quality expected, this album is a lot like the first time I saw them live. The sound limitations of the room wasn't right for them, and though I got into them live and really enjoyed it, their set seemed too short and I was left wanting much more. On first listen, I already know I'm going to be listening to this a lot - especially once my CD arrives and I can rip this album for myself. Time will tell how it holds up against their EPs. With the lack of quiet periods or subtlety, so far it seems more chaotic and intentionally striking than the previous two. I'm looking forward to my vain attempt towards figuring out the lyrics, and, of course, hearing this album performed live. If you haven't bought this already, be sure to do so soon. In conclusion, my love... for Black Cobra... still so vast. August 27, 2009
Song: "Kashmir" This is a lazy song post because I've been out of sorts with the blog for the last few days. I cleaned and rearranged and cleaned some more, and now I'm left with a dead brain. But here's a memory. I recorded myself making fun of this song when I was 14, in 1996. I would love, love, love to re-record it digitally for you guys but it's a long piece, there's a few blank spots and unfunny things that pad the whole thing that make the jokes "make sense", and plus I say some names. It's my psychology but they don't really need to be used in such a manner. I suppose I could use a program and blank out the names... Effort. In any case, at that time, I probably had no real idea who Led Zeppelin were, and it's weird hearing my reaction to the song the first time I'd ever heard it. Yet, beautiful... So beautiful that I hear this song now and almost cringe every time. All I see turns to "brown"... Anyhow, I can't really put any proper thought into talking about this song because it's associated with that one thing so much. So I will close with a joke. Sounds like Danava. July 30, 2009
Song: "Lester Stillwell" Better but not free from the suck yet. This song starts out very energetic and tapers off, then re-builds in a more stoner-ish way... Very 'I went to art school' of it, but it still sounds great. I think this album has three more listens before it enters 'favorite albums ever' territory. July 4, 2009
Song: "No Angel or Demon" Did I just post some band from another country today?! Well, here's another one. Patriotism is overrated (not to mention false). I remember, vaguely, hearing this song/album for the first time. The production and overall guitar sound reminded me of an ex. I was fascinated that this band existed... I remember that ex tried to call me for the first time on the fourth of July once, too... except I was in another state at the time, watching someone get an enema via x-ray while they were a couple of feet away screaming. That day will make the top ten most "interesting" days in my life. I'd like to tell the whole story because it's hilarious to me when I'm not feeling self conscious, but... it's not musical. Maybe some NIN coming up here, soon, then... That there Witchcraft there, they have a nice message about cosmic judgment in this song that I think I can relate to. July 4, 2009
Song: "Eko Eko Azarak" I suppose I could have looked harder. I seem to have forgotten a lot of songs I've posted at this blog... especially with the artists I've posted a lot of, ie Electric Wizard. It's odd how such a slow/low song can be so catchy. Since it's the fourth of July, I should write something about that. Hm. Well, this particular one, I was planning on a show but wasn't prepared for how fucking hot it was going to be. I'm dehydrated as it is without making it worse under the heat of a venue. Plus, I'm in a crappy mood and social shit does not sound interesting... as much as I am annoyed that I haven't seen BOTSC yet. The good news is that it means avoiding crowds and people who haven't figured out that drinking themselves retarded on holidays isn't impressive. Or any day... but it's easier to have "sympathy" for an alcoholic who clearly has some massive issues going on than it is a generic weekends and holidays asshole. Pointless and backwards mass social activities are so fun and exciting for me. One of these days I'll get around to insulting everyone's vices. Something to look forward to... Meanwhile, it's a good day for this band. July 4, 2009
Song: "Dunwich" This was my second post at this blog, ever. It bears repeating. Also, I haven't posted something from EW in 8-9 months. It's about time. Fuck something new, this is great. Today I learned that Tweak Bird is opening for Tool at various shows in the US. It makes sense given that Tool toured with Melvins several times, who toured with Big Business, and Big Business toured with Tool a bit, and Big Business' newest member produced Tweak Bird's album... but in the same, fucking wow. That was unexpected and pretty cool news to hear. I wish they were coming here (to an indoor arena). I'm not very optimistic about summertime Tool-having over here, but all the same... I hope the duo of bands wanders this way. And also it'd be nice to see Tweak Bird in a larger place. Not that I don't like being up front and able to see everything going on, but bigger places = bigger sound. Totally related to EW, I know. But just think... "child of dunwich rise" = "nobody's favorite sun". ... And you know who should tour with Tool, don't you? It's just a sideways, slighty off-center jump from Tweak Bird to Electric Wizard... at least as far as Witchcult Today goes. July 3, 2009
Song: "Lost in the Dark" This song is great. great great great. Overused word, so strange in its ways, but still... great. Brainstorming something to say, I remembered this: When I was 12, I was invited with a couple of other family members my age to spend the night over at someone's ranch(?) off a river. They had a full-on all-day camp thing going on for a bunch of the boys and this was either the first or last day of the whole thing, so a lot of others were invited to camp for the afternoon/evening. I'd never been there before. All in all, it was cool. But my niece and I get bored so we had to go get in some trouble. We left the campsite to go hang out at the actual house on the property hoping to find something interesting. There was about a mile long windy road through the forest to get there, so we caught a ride from someone who was going back there anyway. Unfortunately, the crowd was pretty thin at the house and though we went through the people's house and went to the river and hung out for a bit with some people sitting in a hot tub that was way too damn hot, it was pretty boring. We were sitting inside for a while trying to decide what to do with ourselves, when we noticed... Hey, where did everybody go? All of the cars were gone from the driveway. We were the only ones there. They'd fuckin' left us. And it had gotten dark... If I had been alone or with someone I didn't know well, I probably would have stayed at the house. There would have been something interesting in there to do, and then there's that warm bed thing that's so great. but yeah. I was with my niece, who is crazy and flipped out and said we HAD to make it back to camp. We'll have to walk. At first this didn't seem like a horrible idea. It wasn't too long of a car ride. It was all paved road, and all we'd have to do is follow the road. The camp was right off the road... But yeah, we didn't take into account that the house lights were lighting the road where we stood and there were no more lights after that... and the road was entirely covered on both sides and above by forest... when it was dark. We walked about a half of that road in complete pitch darkness, NO light WHATSOEVER, holding onto each other and dragging our feet to make sure we were still on the road. We were both yelling about not wanting to be attacked by mountain lions. I kept thinking we were walking off the skinny road, freaking out and stopping. I think she cried, and if not she certainly sounded like it. Nobody gave a flying fuck when we got to the camp. If I had any sort of fear of the dark then, it certainly isn't around anymore. July 3, 2009
Song: "Start a Band" Russian Circles. What do I win?! Oh, hm. I already said that. Apparently. Well, it's still funny. Hey, this band's name and this song title form a complete sentence! June 7, 2009
Song: "Changes Are No Good" I learned of this band because of "Still In Love Song" during the five minutes I had Much Music (Canada's MTV). I liked the lyrics even though they're a bit emo-ish and catering to the whiny demographic, so I checked out the rest of the album. I have continued to come back to the album despite it having no relation to anything else I've been listening to the last few years, and I still like the songs... so I think that says something. This song is close to how I feel today. "I am the weekday on weekends". May 11, 2009
Song: "Burning The Altar" YOB posted a new song tonight (AKA 20 minutes ago... Amazing, this technology). It is as one might expect. Very loud and challenging to those with adult-onset ADD. Their newest album is tentatively scheduled for a July release. May 10, 2009
Song: "Moscow Madness" Because crack is bad. May 10, 2009
Song: "Rise Up And Fight" I was going to post this earlier but I kept forgetting what song it was thanks to the miracles of distraction. Now that I've finally remembered, here you go. This sounds like Pink Floyd's "One Of These Days". April 14, 2009
Song: "Gallop Song" At this point, I can remember next to nothing about seeing these guys live even though it's only been just over a year. I was probably more concentrated on the fact that I was standing next to some freak I'd just met (I kid, you're the best freak ever). Either way, I didn't care for what they did live and dropped them from my view. I recently started listening to "Right Before Death" a lot, and this song crept in with it. It's good... a bit hard to describe, though. They come from the same sort of thing as Torche, where the genre is metal, sludge, stoner(?) but they feel much lighter. This song definitely is like that. I have to say I like its beat, too. April 14, 2009
Song: "Clone" Thanks to Angrychairs for uploading this album... I'd forgotten about it. April 12, 2009
Song: "Touch, Peel & Stand" Brainwashing! This was on the radio so fucking much when I was a teenager. I don't know why it's good listenings, but it simply is. I also can't fathom that the vocalist here is only three years older than me. He sounds older... April 12, 2009
Song: "Black Betty" I'm fairly certain I downloaded this song right after seeing a movie, probably Blow (thanks, wikipedia!) but it's one of those songs I'd known forever without knowing its place. I'm not sure what to say about it... so, you know, if you don't recognize the name - just listen to it. April 12, 2009
Song: "The Kiss" And another one that's unusual for the blog. The fucking Cure?! Yeah. This song takes a while to get to the point, but the minutes spent on noise-making create the right mood for the vocal portion of the track. I recommend that you get this song as it is on the album, because the screech coming from the live videos I found has been toned down a lot. If you go to their myspace and in the player click "Albums", scroll through to this album and you will find a decent version of the song. While you're at it, listen to "Why Can't I Be You?" ... and "If Only Tonight We Could Sleep" because that song... is one of the best, ever. April 12, 2009
Song: "The Perfect Fit" Time to do an unusual song. I haven't listened to this at all in a long time, but there were a few months sometime around 2004 where the overall sound coming from The Dresden Dolls was interesting and I really liked this song. You might know this artist between the songs "Girl Anachronism" and "Coin Operated Boy"... Well, this song is way more mellowed out. Maybe a little sappy. Song: "Threads" Another got me. It took a long time. Good. There is hope for me. March 16, 2009
Song: "Billy Fish" I haven't listened to this album much in a while. Been sort of picking at it. Then this song comes on this evening... And that little guitar solo at 2:51 hits. EE! January 20, 2009

How about a song that isn't quite a song, but a track? After all, I think you need to fill your life with trivial things.

Song: "Long Hair" February 28, 2008
Ugh. My ears feel like they've been flooded. I went to my first show of the year last night, also known as the practice / get back on the horse show. I wasn't expecting to have my world changed, but it was just plain dull. Any moment of reprieve was soon ruined by more of the same dullness. I honestly do not know how a band can ruin their own material. I know better than to do things during a void of course moon, but the main "band" came on well after the void of course period was over... and still made me want to cry. February 2, 2008

A few years ago, I was recommended to listen to the band Dream Theater. I downloaded a copy of Octavarium. I didn't understand what the fuss was about, but okay, I liked a few of the songs.

I forgot about this song, and just heard it. It's a really nice, clean, well-produced song with a slow, calming beat. It generally comes across as fantastical. Various idiots around the internet compare her voice and the musical style to Bjork, but Bjork has a certain over-the-top hyper intensity that this band entirely lacks (which is a good thing).

I'm going to break a rule and recommend more songs for today. We'll see how badly my archiving system gets screwed up by this.

I heard about 57chevy because of some stoner rock compliations I found. I liked their songs "Sun Rose Twice" and "Diemansion", so I went to their site to hear more, and downloaded all of their material from there. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem that they're online anymore, and the band apparently doesn't exist anymore, either. Still, I have to recommend them.

I'm sick. I'll update again when I'm not, but in the meantime... here are some cliche sickness related songs in mostly visual format.
