October 2007 Archives

Let's see how this works out. I have the basic site set up in MT, and now I must change the design of the site itself...

While I'm working on things, go refresh your musical palate with Tomahawk's Anonymous.

Today, the song is "Tonto" the fourth track off the album Mirrored by Battles. You can view the official video for the song here.

The way the song builds and breaks down at 3 minutes is worth the album alone.

I very recently discovered the band Electric Wizard. Just as their older songs were growing on me, I found a copy of the album Witchcult Today, which is due out November 20th in the US. I was surprised at how well I liked it for not enjoying the overall genre much (though, the band has a more stoner rock style). There are several songs I'd like to praise here, but today I'm going to go with "Dunwich". You can hear a youtube version of the song here in the meantime, although I have to say youtube's sound quality is never going to do the song justice.

Today's song is "From The Sky" (sometimes referred to as "FROM THE SKY!!!") off the album From Mars To Sirius by the band Gojira. You can listen to the song in high quality(!) at the band's website in the 'medias - audios' section. Click on the first album, and it's the 3rd track. They also have a very well designed myspace, and a few fans over at youtube.

If you're unfamiliar with the genre, the song will come across as very intense. Try to stick through it, though; the latter half of the song is far too great to pass up.

I would hope that Kyuss needs no introduction, that we all already know and love them dearly. Unfortunately, that is not the case. So, today's song is Kyuss' "Spaceship Landing" off their final album ...And the Circus Leaves Town. If you're one of the people who has never heard of Kyuss, you can trust me on this: This is one of the best songs you've yet to hear, and this album is full of more of them. Go buy the album and listen for yourself.

Since we're on the topic of stoner rock...

"Exoskeleton" by the band Dozer. You can hear the latter half of this epic song on their myspace. It's located on a recent tour split EP with the band Brain Police, and I'm sure you can find a copy of it on Dozer's website but I can't currently get it to work. I'll update this entry as soon as I find a link for it.

A brief reprieve from the heavier rock sounds of late, today's song is "Sleep Deprivation" by the band Simian Mobile Disco. It's off the new album Attack Decay Sustain Release. This band also has a myspace where you can sample other tracks.

"Sleep Deprivation" is an electronic dance song in classic form, but better.

For tonight's full moon in Scorpio, the song is "Nervous Breakdown" by Black Flag. You can download/preview an mp3 version of the individual song, as well as the rest of the album, over at amazon.

Lyrics:
I'm about to have a nervous breakdown
My head really hurts
If I don't find a way out of here
I'm gonna go berserk 'cause
I'm crazy and I'm hurt
Head on my shoulders
It's going... Berserk!
I hear the same old talk talk talk
The same old lines
Don't do me that today
Yeah if you know what's good for you, you'll get out of my way
'Cause, I'm crazy and I'm hurt
Head on my shoulders
Going... Berserk!
I won't apologize
For acting outta line
You see the way I am
You leave any time you can 'cause
I'm crazy and I'm hurt
Head on my shoulders
Going... Berserk!
Crazy! Crazy! Crazy! Crazy!
I don't care what you fuckin' do!
I don't care what you fuckin' say!
I'm so sick of everything
I just want to... Die!

I'm feeling lazy today. How about "Queen B" from Puscifer? The first album comes out October 30th, so go get it.

I don't know this band very well despite their time in existence, but nevertheless... today's song is T.S.O.L.'s "In My Head" from the album Disappear. It's catchy.

Today's song is "Supa-Hero", from the album Blue Sky Mind, by sHeavy. You can listen to the song on their myspace, considering that's one of the very few places to find it at present. You can easily find some of their other albums around on torrent sites, but I'm having difficulty finding Blue Sky Mind.

That said, I'm going to upload it. This band needs to be heard.

Edit: I've uploaded Supa-Hero.
Edit: And the album, Blue Sky Mind.

Edit: You can download it now on their website!

This song has been stuck in my head all day: "Better Version Of Me". I heard probably ten seconds of the song and the lyrics won't leave my brain. It's by Fiona Apple, and it's on her most recent album, Extraordinary Machine.

Lyrics:
The nickel dropped
When I was on
My way beyond
The Rubicon
What did I do

And of the games that I can handle
None are ones worth the candle
What can I do

I'm a frightened, fickle person
Fighting, cryin', kickin', cursin'
What should I do

Oooh, after all the folderol,
And hauling over coals stops
What will I do

Can't take a good day without a bad one
Don't feel just to smile until I've had one
Where did I learn

I make a fuss about a little thing
The rhyme is losing to the riddling
Where's the turn

I don't want a home, I'd ruin that
Home is where my habits have a habitat
Why give it a turn

Oh, after all the folderol
And hauling over coals stops
What did I learn

I am likely to miss the main event
If I stop to cry or complain again
So I will keep a deliberate pace
Let the damned breeze dry my face

Oh, mister, wait until you see
What I'm gonna be

I've got a plan, a demand and it just began
And if you're right, you'll agree

Here's coming a better version of me
Here it comes a better version of me
Here it comes a better version of me
