Battles was responsible for my first song post here at Sounds of Sagittarius (back when it was Song of the Day). It may go without saying that I appreciate what they do. Though they are on the upcoming Twilight: Eclipse soundtrack, that doesn't seem to take away from how lovely they sound nor their general respectability.

You can listen to the song streaming online today, near the bottom of the list. The song is called "The Line". It has almost totally clean vocals in the beginning, something I didn't expect from them. After a moment, it wanders into a more familiar Battles mode, altogether remaining pretty easy on the ears for both those of us who've been around for the last three (or more) years and those who've never heard Battles before at all.

I gotta say, though, it's annoying that their flash player has so many filters on it that I can't download the song and therefore have to wait for the album. Do you think I give a crap about that soundtrack besides that song?

KYUSS! / SLAYER! / GOJIRA!

I saw the band Battles over the weekend, and a very unexpected highlight of the show was the song "Race: In" (you can also preview the song in the first minute and 23 seconds of this video). It's been stuck in my head since. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

Today, the song is "Tonto" the fourth track off the album Mirrored by Battles. You can view the official video for the song here.

The way the song builds and breaks down at 3 minutes is worth the album alone.
