SeeingtheDark.com has gradually evolved from a song-a-day blog since its start to something a little more nebulous. With a heavy rock and metal focus, I share music that I find interesting along with my personal musical journey and experiences. While ultimately narcissistic, in the end I hope you make up your own mind.

Unless otherwise noted, Seeing the Dark is entirely coded and written by me - "saturnine". I use content management software to keep the blog in simple working order. Short of that, the words, HTML, CSS, etc. that you see are mine. (Design page)
Short Personal History:
I grew up on common media, tv, and pop/rock/oldies radio in the 80s and 90s. My first favorite bands were Tool, Korn, Monster Magnet, Nine Inch Nails, and Stone Temple Pilots. Nearly all of my interests for years after were related to one of those bands.
Around 2001-2002 I started trying music along the lines of Le Tigre, The White Stripes, Placebo, and The Strokes to get away from nu metal and radio rock. From there I gradually moved on to classic rock and 80s rock radio hoping to learn something about music history.
Stoner rock followed around 2004 with a Monster Magnet revival, Kyuss, Sheavy, Fu Manchu, and many related bands, sometimes detouring to artists like Fiona Apple, She Wants Revenge, Lily Allen, and Muse. Around 2006 my tastes began to get significantly heavier and louder, ushered in by bands like Mastodon, The Sword, Big Business, and Sleep.
I started the blog October 19th 2007 a few weeks after I heard High on Fire, Boris, and Electric Wizard for the first time. The first two posts were about Tomahawk and Battles. My first post on a subsequent host featured Red Fang and Meshuggah. Each band and style has heavily influenced the direction the blog - and my interests - have taken since.
Innumerable experiments later and I now spend most days on doom, sludge, and psychedelic/stoner rock and metal - though I do still have a soft spot for lighter, commercial rock. These days I usually say my favorite bands are Tool, Kyuss, Monster Magnet, Black Cobra, and Gojira.
